Pinetar soap

Pinetar soap

When I first decided I'd like to make this pinetar soap it was after I had checked out an extremely old cosmetic makers book from the library.

I was so intrigued by some of the writing I pulled an all nighter reading about the infamous "heal all" reputation pinetar soap had in the late 1800s. They used pinetar and coal with leftover cooking fats, and their lye made in old barrels with potash. It was said all they needed to make soap was a pig and hickory wood. I don't go that far. However I wrote my pinetar soap recipe to mimic the oldest pinetar soaps. The pinetar and the charcoal together really are so soothing and cleansing. I won't claim they heal all like those soap peddlers did. As far as bug bites, Irritations, and boo boos it really rocks though.
